About the ESR Consortium
Philosophy
Considering the lack of standardization of existing Java specifications and their non-compliance with the embedded systems’ constraints, a few actors of the embedded software/hardware markets created a non-profit association with the purpose of writing new standards called ESRs (Embedded Specification Requests). The ESR Consortium was created to set up the definition of new technology standards that will help industrials to get one’s bearing in a rapidly growing Market.
All rules and processes have been defined by the members themselves to reach the purpose of a standardisation. Initiation and adoption processes were simplified in order to fit with the market’s constraints.
As a non-profit entity, the ESR Consortium purpose is not to promote any company’s product, but to gather a community of actors from the embedded market that will share their needs, and join their strenghts for the success of embedded development.
Markets
All embedded devices have similar economic constraints : they shall be price-competitive, and be launched on-time to the market which implies reduced software/ hardware development costs and design efforts. The ESR Consortium focuses on delivering Java libraries optimized to fulfill these economic constraints for a wide range of indutries such as automotive, medical, smart metering, industrial control, home & building automation, electronics…
